What 2T oil should I use?

We recommend using a semi-synthetic 2T (two-stroke) oil. These oils are commonly available at any motor parts shop or gas station. The brand isn’t that important—try a few to see which suits your riding style and, most importantly, your machine. Non-synthetic 2T oils (for example, the overpriced M2T in our region) cause increased carbon buildup, which clogs the exhaust and the engine itself. Carbonization leads to a drop in power and, in some cases, increased wear of engine parts. Problems can also arise from incorrect oil–fuel mixing ratios.

Mixing oil with gasoline

The mix ratio is often listed on the oil packaging; typically it’s 1:50, or 1:33 during break-in. Older 2T engines that use plain brass bushings instead of needle bearings on the connecting rod may require 1:40 for reliable operation. In the Babetta group, however, we still mix 1:50 even in these cases and haven’t encountered problems so far.

I want the absolute top when it comes to oils. What should I buy?

You can also use fully synthetic 2T oils, which can be mixed at ratios up to 1:100. This is the most expensive option and is mostly used by competitive riders.
